Accessibility
The Museum is a Grade 1 building which restricts our ability to make physical changes. Nevertheless, our aim is to work towards improving and developing the Museum for visitors who cannot access the house.
Current Physical Access

Throughout the entire building the floors are mainly original, and are therefore uneven. Outside the building there are cobbles, uneven surfaces and steps.

There are steps in and out of many of the rooms and galleries. Many of the doorways are narrow.

On the ground floor ramps have been installed to grant access to some areas.
- The upper two floors are accessed only by a spiral staircase. The treads are steep and triangular in shape, and are wider on the outside of the step. There is a solid handrail on the wall alongside the wider step and a rope along the central mast for grip.
- Another set of stairs to the first floor only can be accessed from the kitchen, at the rear of the main building. This short but steep staircase gives access to the gallery.
- There are steps to reach up to the Garden and Archive at the rear of the Museum.
Assistance dogs are allowed in the museum.
Dogs other than assistance dogs are not allowed in the museum.
Current Facilities
- Museum volunteers are able to assist and welcome visitors.
- A sighted guide for the visually impaired is often available - please ask.
- There are written guides available in Dutch, French, German, Italian and Spanish.
- There is seating available in most galleries.
- There are no public toilets - the nearest are in the Market Square.
Group Visits
Group visits, including school visits, are welcome on days when the Musuem is open to the public, but please email us in advance to check that this is ok, especially if there are a lot of people in your group.
If you would like to bring in a school group, please email us in advance.
Groups visits are "self guided". You will need to make sure you bring enough staff with you to supervise your visit. Our knowledgeable volunteers will be able to help should you need it. There are Museum guides available in Dutch, French, German, Italian and Spanish as well as English. A guide can be emailed to you if you'd like it in advance.
Our Museum is entirely volunteer run and receives no external funding so donations are vital.
Guided tours when the Museum is closed to the public are possible depending on volunteer availability. There will be a charge per person for this. Please email us to discuss options.
Visits by paranormal groups are possible too, depending on volunteer availablility and Museum guidelines. Email us for more information.
