This year's Heritage Open Days festival ran from September 11th to September 20th.

We had poets in the Museum and lots of visitors were treated to live poetry performances.

We had writers in the Museum talking about other writers. 

We had an interesting exhibition about writers with a link to Totnes in the Bennett Room. We'll keep the exhibition up for the next couple of weeks so do come and have a look while you can..

There were also opportunities to find out how to start researching your family history.

You may have missed this festival, but the Musuem is open on

Tuesdays, Fridays and some Saturdays until the end of October. The archive is open on Fridays all year round.

There's still lots to see, discover and be amazed by. 

In 2025 the Museum’s National Heritage Open Days event celebrated the house being 450 years old. We had information and exhibitions focusing on the transformation of this 16^th century house built in 1575 into a museum. The transformation was completed in 1962. 

Totnes Museum took part in National Heritage Open Days in 2024 and exhibited a display of photographs of some of the beautiful 16th and 17th century decorated plaster ceilings in Fore Street and High Street in Totnes.  The display has been packed away now, so the best opportunity of seeing one of these ceilings today is to look up at windows above the shops as you walk along Fore Street and High Street.

If you're lucky enough to live in a house with one of these lovely ceilings, perhaps you could open the curtains and shine a light on the ceilings so people in the street below can see them?
