There are many ways to support the Museum and the most important is to visit us when we're open! We're sure you'll be impressed at what there is to see especially if you haven't visited for a while. We also have new items in our shop - postcards, fridge magnets and pens - and every sale helps us. And we rely on donations.
Other ways to support us is to become a volunteer - we always need volunteers especially front of house to welcome visitors in. Or you can become a Museum Friend for a modest subscription which goes to support the Museum. If you have museum experience or governance experience, you could become a trustee.
There's more information about all these below - or call in when we're open or email info@totnesmuseum.org.
We are looking for people to join our dedicated team of Trustees.
Do you have a experience of being a Trustee with other organisations?
Do you have professional museum experience and expertise?
Do you think strategically?
Do you have time to give to help us thrive?
We are looking for Trustees with these qualities who are also willing to be very hands on.
If you are interested in being a Trustee please contact our Chair of Trustees: chair@totnesmuseum.org
We look forward to hearing from you!
Volunteers encourage visitors in, greet with a welcoming smile, mention that the house is 450 years old so be careful on the stairs, take part in training, clean the windows, work as a team, explain things, polish the display cases, audit the collection, chat to visitors, carry out research, write labels, file things, discover things, find things, learn things, vacuum the floors, ask questions, dust, answer questions, encourage donations, use the till, make everyone feel as though their visit was worthwhile, pack items in boxes, have a great time.
Why not join us?
The Museum has behind the scenes work going on during the closed season (November to March) which involves working with items in the collection and looking at how we can interpret the collection better. You'll need some museum experience or be willing to do some training and work with more experienced volunteers if they're available.
When we're open to the public there is less behind the scenes work available but we always need front of house volunteers who can welcome visitors. We also need people who can chat to visitors about our collection and we even people to clean windows, floors (especially if it's wet) and polish display cases.
If you're interested in volunteering please email us.
