Over the years there have been many rumours of hauntings throughout the museum.
There has even been an article in the Totnes Times gave examples of paranormal experiences which people have seen, heard and felt during time spent in the museum.
We even regularly have paranormal groups come to the museum to investigate the supernatural goings on here.
Have you had any paranormal experiences during your visit? We would love to hear from you.
In the Passageway, Reception and Bennet Room people often get a feeling of seasickness or the feeling they are on the sea.
It is thought this could be related to the ship's mast around which the spiral staircase is build.
Another theory is that this could relate to the museum being an inn for a good part of it's history and as Totnes was a port the in would have likely seen a lot of sailors pass through in it's day.
There appears to be a ghost of a man in the Forehall. He is said to be imposing and can be rather unpleasant.
Psychics have felt a presence of fear around him. Some times foul language has been noted too. Although, this has not necessarily caused the psychics to be scared themselves.
Back in 2016 Steve Peacock wrote an article for Totnes Times which detailed many of the kinds of ghostly encounters experienced in the museum.

'My husband the sceptic... felt weird and uneasy in the kitchen. Personally I felt a strange sickness in my stomach, which left when we left the kitchen. The fire place felt most spooky. I'm sure this is due to stone tape theory as the fire place is from elsewhere.
Overall a very lovely and interesting place to visit.'
